From Okey Sampson, Umuahia
Abia State commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Muhammad Sanyinna has harped on the need for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
Sanyinna described peace as priceless which every society that aspires to attain developmental goals must make deliberate efforts to promote.
The NSCDC state boss stated these at the command headquarters, Umuahia in his address marking this year’s World Peace Day
He said this call has become necessary because “when you see the thick smoke billowing from theatres of war or hear the wounded crying for help; when you hear the ominous sounds of the fighter jets on unfriendly missions or see millions displaced and hungry, it is either those who have the opportunity to promote peace derelicted or attempted to find peace through the barrel of the gun. In all, there is no alternative to peace
“I therefore urge all Nigerians to live and coexist peaceably with their neighbors. Like the second stanza of the National anthem captures it … ‘though tribes and tongues differ,..’
He used the occasion to decoration the personnel of the Corps serving in Abia State Command who benefited from the 2021 promotion exercise.
He commended the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi for the promotion of the personnel and repositioning NSCDC.
