Adetsav saga: Benue NUJ condemns attack on 2 journalists

Rose Ejembi, Makurdi

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State chapter, has condemned the attack on two journalists, Rose Ejembi of the The Sun and John Charles of The Punch while on duty in the state.

Acting Chairman, Kajo Martins, in a statement he jointly signed with the Secretary, Moses Akarhan, frowned at the high level of domestic violence in the state, with particular reference to the murder of the Adetsav, last Friday.

“The union condemned, in totality, the attack on the two journalists, who went to do a follow up report on the tragic murder incidence at the Makurdi Local Government Secretariat, by some members of the bereaved family.

“The union further appealed to the public to always cooperate with journalists, while the police and other security agents should ensure adequate protection of media practitioners while carrying out their professional duties, in addition to protecting life and property in the state.”

The union also condemned what it described as incessant cases of rape in the state and advised people, especially men, to restrain themselves from sexually molesting children.

The statement, while commending the Benue State Government for taking over the late Ochanya’s case to ensure that justice is served, however, urged parents to educate their wards to speak out and report any act of sexual abuse perpetrated on them.
