Anambra Assembly crisis: APGA suffering from internal bleeding, says PDP

Geoffrey Anyanwu, Awka

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, opened up on the allegation that it had a hand the crisis rocking Anambra State House of Assembly, submitting that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was only suffering from internal bleeding.

Consequently, it advised APGA to stop blaming outsiders and look inwards in solving the crisis in the Assembly where it is in control.

It could be recalled that the State Assembly which is about 95 per cent APGA had on November 13 witnessed the removal the Speaker, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu, by some members of the House and in her stead Ikem Uzoezie was elected the new Speaker, a development that culminated in the sealing of the Assembly complex by the State Police Command on November 15.

APGA had since then accused PDP of sponsoring the crisis in House just as it alleged that the purpose was to impeach the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano.

The recent closeness of the governor with the Presidency and All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government has also heightening apprehension in some quarters that Governor Obiano might work against PDP’s interest in the state in 2019 elections where his predecessor, Peter Obi is a running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of PDP.

But the State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr. Nnamdi Nwangwu, who spoke to newsmen, on Wednesday, said that APGA’s accusation amounted to nothing, describing it as ‘ridiculous and unfounded’ and insisting that the party was suffering from internal bleeding, as a result of its “skewed primaries.”

He said, “APGA is now pointing accusing fingers at PDP for its internal problems when it is common knowledge that the failure of APGA to conduct credible primaries is responsible for where the party finds itself today.

“The PDP has nothing to benefit by being part of the alleged plot to impeach the Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano. The spurious allegation against the PDP was meant to distract the party as the 2019 State and National Assembly elections draw closer.”

PDP according to him had demonstrated that it was the custodian of democracy in Nigeria as shown by the degree of credibility that accompanied its primaries across the country.

Nwangwu, therefore, assured that, “None of the antics of APGA would distract PDP as the party moves toward a clean sweep of the 2019 polls.

“Our people should disregard APGA antics to tarnish PDP’s image as the hallmark of maturity is to face ones problem squarely instead of throwing tantrums at others for being responsible for a crisis that is self inflicted.”
