The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) on Friday commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for its laudable achievements in ensuring an inclusive and strong economy.
The President of ANAN, Alhaji Shehu Ladan, who made the commendation when ANAN executives visited Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday, said that his second term would bring more succour to the citizens.
Ladan noted that the economic policies of the Buhari-administration had succeeded in plugging fiscal leakages and making youth empowerment and infrastructure development a top priority.
He further extolled the administration’s effort in getting the economy out of recession and repositioning it for diversification via agriculture.
His words: “This government has instilled fiscal discipline by plugging leakages; your second term, Mr President, will bring more succour to Nigerians.’’
Ladan also noted that Nigeria’s image in the comity of nations had improved significantly, enabling the country to attract more Foreign Direct Investments.
Besides, the ANAN president said that Buhari’s assent to the Not-Too-Young-To- Run bill had further stimulated youth participation in governance.
He said that the Buhari-administration’s fight against terrorism had been fruitful, as the Boko Haram insurgents had been degraded.
Responding, the President said that his administration had remained focused and more energised in ensuring accountability in the country’s governance.
Buhari noted that the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), for instance, had boosted the nation’s economic growth.
He, however, said that the enforcement of the financial policy required much sacrifice and focus on the part of the government, “as accountability is no longer optional.
“One of the cardinal objectives of this administration is that people and all government institutions must give account for what comes in and goes out.
“We did not introduce TSA but we enforced it. TSA makes a lot of sense that you must have to give account for whatever comes in and goes out in public finance; that’s accountability,’’ he added.
Buhari urged the country’s accountants to remain focused, while supporting the government in the ongoing fight against corruption.
He, however, noted that accountants might not be liked by many people because of their professional ethics, adding, however, that the sacrifice was necessary for the country to grow.
