“I am of the opinion that this RUGA will solve the problem once and for all. They will stay in one place, they will graze there, and everything will be provided for them including water, clinics and schools, so that they don’t move to anywhere – Tanko Yakassai
FALLACY! WITH WHOSE MONEY? IS CATTLE REARING FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BUSINESS?
12 states accepted it. What is bad about it (Ruga)? – Tanko Yakassai
THEN WHY NOT START WITH THOSE 12 STATES THAT ACCEPTED RUGA? WHY SUSPEND RUGA?
“Why does the government build markets for traders? Traders are usually allotted stores in markets built by the Federal Government. I can’t see government building markets for traders and refuse to create Ruga settlements for herders” – Tanko Yakassai
WHICH MARKET WAS BUILT BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WIOTH THOSE AMENITIES YOU MENTIONED AND GIVEN FREE TO TRADERS?
Question to Tanko Yakassai: But traders pay money for the markets, how is that similar to RUGA?
RUGA isn’t free of charge either. There is a problem in the country between farmers and herdsmen and it is not something that can be overlooked or denied. Anybody who doesn’t want RUGA should offer solutions. You can’t chase away the Fulani from Nigeria because they are citizens. Where would you chase them to? I am not a Fulani man but I do not understand why people are so aggrieved about it that you say an entire people cannot carry out their profession because you don’t like them? What is the solution to it? Let those people who don’t want it proffer their own solutions.
“People say why don’t the Fulani buy the land, but in Nigeria, land belongs to the state government and you cannot acquire it unless it is approved by the state governor. It is not like buying rice in the market. To buy a land, you don’t get it until you apply for it and the government will give you. The Fulani cattle herders don’t sell the meat outside Nigeria or do they? Is it not Nigerians that eat the cow meat? So if you buy food from the Nigerian farmer, why can’t you buy meat from the cattle herder? What is stopping the cattle herder from rearing his livestock while the farmer is allowed to grow his rice”? – Tanko Yakassai
CAN YOU SEE HOW THEY THINK?
TOO BAD WE SEEM NOT TO TAKE STOCK OF HAPPENINGS IN NIGERIA. CAN ANYBODY TELL US HOW MUCH HAS BEEN SPENT TO DATE BY NIGERIA AND SO-CALLED INTERNATIONAL DONORS ON THE SO-CALLED FIGHT AGAINST DESERTIFICATION? WHAT HAS BEEN THE RESULT AND WHERE HAS NIGERIA BEEN TAKING THE MONEY FROM? USE A FRACTION OF THAT MONEY IN THE SOUTH AND SEE HOW DEVELOPED THE REGION WOULD BE. IT HAS BEEN DECEIT ALL THE WAY. GET MONEY FROM OIL IN THE SOUTH AND SPEND IT ON PHANTHOM PROJECTS IN THE NORTH. UNTIL WHEN? WHO DOES NOT KNOW THAT DESERTIFICATION IS A RESULT OFUNCONTROLLED GRAZING IN THE NORTH? HOW COULD GRASS GROW THERE WHEN THE AREA IS OPEN TO HERDERS WHO CONSTANTLY MOVE THEIR CATTLE FROM ADJIONING WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO GRAZE IN THOSE PLACES? AS HERDS OF CATTLE LEAVE A PLACE THIS WEEK, OTHERS MOVE IN THE NEXT WEEK WITHOUT ALLOWING THE GRASS TO RECOUPERATE. THE CIRCLE CONTINUES UNTIL THE GRASSES DIE OFF AND THE SOIL IS EXPOSED TO DRYNESS. THIS HAS CONTINUED IN THOSE PLACES FOR CENTURIES WITHOUT THE HERDSMEN BATTING AN EYELID OVER THEIR DESTRUCTIVE SYSTEM OF ANIMAL REARING. THEY, NOW WANT TO EXTEND THIS DESTRUCTION AND DESERTIFICATION TO THE SOUTH. AUDU OGBE TOLD US HE WANTED TO IMPORT GRASS AND THEIR SEEDLINGS FROM BRASIL. WHERE DID HE WANT TO PLANT THEM? DID HE THINK OF THE CATTLE REARERS ESTABLISHING RANCHES IN THEIR STATES WHILE THE GRASS SEEDLINGS WOULD BE DISTRIBUTED TO SOUTHERNERS TO ESTABLISH FEED FARMS AND MILLS IN THE SOUTH TO FEED THE CATTLE IN THEIR RANCHES? MUST THE FULANI HAVE EVERYTHING FOR FREE FOR CATTLE THAT THEY SELL AND MAKE MONEY? WHAT SORT OF COUNTRY IS THIS? IS IT NOT RIGHT FOR ONE TO AGREE THAT NGERIA IS EVEN WORSE THAT A ZOO THAT NNAMDI KANU CALLS IT? STATES SHOULD ESTABLISH RANCHES OR ENCOURAGE THEIR ESTABLISHMENT BY THEIR CITIZENS TO REAR ANIMALS AND DISCOURAGE OVERGRAZING. PEOPLE FROM OTHER STATES COMING IN SHOULD DO SO IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE LAWS GUIDING RANCHING.
