Wife of the Governor of Kaduna State, Aisha Ummi Garba El-Rufia condemned the rate at which girls, especially minors, are being sexually molested and raped in our society.
Mrs. El-Rufia was particularly worried that majority of out of school children are girls and implored women to prioritize education for girls.
She affirmed this in Abuja at the Women & Girls Summit theme: Empower Girls, During and after Conflict organised by National Centre for Women Development in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the President in commemoration of International Day of the Girl.
Speaking at the Women and Girls Summit, Wife of the Governor of Kaduna State, Aisha Ummi Garba El-Rufia enjoined women to teach their daughters sex education to avoid rape and sexually molestation.
Her words: “We need to teach the girl-child how to be uncomfortable with certain touches on their bodies (breast and vagina) by known male in the family such as fathers, uncles, cousins even neighbours to avoid sexually molestation or rape,” she said.
She noted that majority of out of school children are girl and advised parents, especially mothers to prioritize education for the girls to empower them.
“Girls needs to acquire basic education to help them face challenges, avoid intimidation from men and become successful in life.
“Consequently, women should consider the education of their girl-child paramount,” she added.
She further stressed that " teach a girl any skill of her choice at a young age with education inclusive for economic empowerment during and after conflict to succeed in life.”
