The son of Nigeria’s former Head of State, Mohammed Sani Abacha, has rejected the attempt by the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to replace him as the validly returned gubernatorial flag bearer of the party in Kano State.
A statement sent to Daily Sun by Mohammed Sani Abacha, Sunday, followed the listing of Sadiq Wali, son of Ambassador Aminu Wali as the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The statement, signed by Manniru Maliafiya, the Spokesman to Abacha Campaign Organization, insisted that Mohammed Sani Abacha was duly elected by a constitutionally elected set of delegates, in a free and fair election, which was witnessed and testified to by INEC and the national delegates of the PDP.
The statement recalled the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State sent his monitoring team as ordained by Section 84 of the 2022 Electoral Act (as Amended) to witnessed the election adding that he also attested to the public, days after, that the PDP primary election conducted by the Sagagi faction, in which produced Abacha as the winner, was the one recognized by INEC.
The statement added, “But in the desperate moves to depriving a law -abiding fellow of his mandate, some self appointed retired political scraps misled INEC headquarters, thereby presenting to them a judgment of the court of appeal nullifying the national delegates that took place in the PDP Presidential primary” the statement said.
The statement stated that it was the same set of delegates that elected Mogammed Abacha that also elected the presidential candidate of the party, cautioning that their daftly act could “lead to putting the candidature of presidential flag bearer in contention”
The statement called on INEC Chairman to deeply scrutinize the court judgment presented to him and which served as the justification for replacing Abacha with Sadiq Wali just as it called on their supporters to remain calm as their lawyers have already been directed to seek relief in court.
