The Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has cautioned motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and law while plying roads in the state.

The Managing Director of the agency, Alhaji Baffa Dan-Agundi, stated this while addressing newsmen on the recently- passed Amended Road Traffic Law 2021.

He said by abiding by the rules, the roads in the state would be safer.

“We, therefore, urge road users across the state to always adhere strictly to regulations guiding conduct of drivers in Kano.

“Any motorist caught disobeying the laws by either driving against traffic or causing obstructions on roads, packing illegally or picking and dropping passengers at un-approved locations will face the law,” he warned.

The KAROTA boss also commended the state House of Assembly for upward review of KAROTA law, saying the development would encourage the agency’s personell in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.

According to him, before the amendments, there was a lot of loopholes in the previous law which people, especially tricycle operators, think that the agency violated their rights by operating during the night.”

He said: “You know the trucks before, do normally come to the city in every minute which caused a lots of traffic congestions. Now the law has specified what time they are coming to the city.

“There is the section of the law which says we work with relevant stakeholders to enforce laws on motorists plying roads in Kano”, he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kano state House of Assembly recently passed the Kano Road and Traffic Agency amendment law 2021.

The previous law had no provisions for by-laws on tricycles, which have now been added to accommodate and guide the owners and drivers of the vehicles.(NAN)
