Land Fraud: Adamawa Govt demotes employees

NAN

Adamawa State Government has approved the demotion of some employees of its Land and Survey ministry over land collateral fraud and other related cases.

Alhaji Ilyasu Danjuma, the state’s Commissioner for Land and Survey, confirmed the development to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Yola.

Danjuma said the decision was taken to bring sanity to the ministry which has been marred by land fraud and other related activities.

“The issue of land has become very complicated and when I was appointed as the Commissioner, there were a lot of challenges facing the ministry.

”They include lack of land compensation by government and land crises due to the fraudulent activity of some staffs.

“Among the steps taken by the government to checkmate and control the situation was the re-establishment of the Surveillance Committee,’’ Danjuma said.

He said after investigations and verification by the committee, some senior and junior members of staff were found culpable in land fraud and arbitration related cases.

The commissioner, however, did not give the names of staff indicted and penalised in the case.

He said that some of them were queried, others demoted, while some were handed over to the Police for further investigation.

The commissioner said the ministry had succeeded in reducing the high rate of land racketeering especially among its staff.

Danjuma urged members of the public with complaints over land issues to write to the ministry for redress.
