Osun guber: Report to FCT CP, IGP tells Melaye, Ben-Bruce

Molly Kilete, Abuja

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has  directed senators Dino Melaye and Ben-Bruce to report to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner, on Monday, for investigation, instead of reporting to the IGP Monitoring Unit, as he had earlier directed.

The lawmakers, who embarked on a protest over the outcome of the Osun State governorship election, are expected to report to the FCT police commissioner at 10:00a.m, on Monday.

The IGP, who made this known in a statement, on Sunday, said  police invitation letters to the lawmakers had been issued to them and they are expected to comply.

The change of venue, according to the IGP, is because the FCT Police Command has the statutory jurisdiction to investigate the matter.

The statement, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, excluded the name of Senate President Bukola Saraki, who the IGP had also summoned, last Friday.

“Preliminary investigation carried out so far by the police into the above mentioned incident revealed that Sen. Dino Melaye and Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce, were captured on camera for their  active involvement in the disturbance of public peace and public safety, unlawful blockade of Shehu Shagari way for several hours.

“The action prevented motorists, road users and other members of the public from having access and passage on the highway, thereby, disturbing public peace and public safety and causing innocent people to scamper for safety. The action was also a violent attack on policemen posted to ensure security of the Force Headquarters…”
