Presidential primary: ANN scribe petitions IGP over forged signature

National Secretary of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), Sahid Umar, will forward a petition to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over alleged forgery of his signature in the certificate of nomination allegedly issued to Fela Durotoye, making him the presidential candidate of the party.

The party claimed that the said certificate was fake and has called on Nigerians to disregard it.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity secretary of the party, Akinloye Oyeniyi, and distributed to newsmen, at the weekend, the party said it is aware that few elements within the party already congregated themselves into day-to-day runners of the party, usurping the functions of some organs of the party, especially the National Working Committee (NWC), and discharging them unilaterally with fake signatures; one of which is the said certificate of return.

“ANN, thereby, dissociates itself from all these elements’ actions, especially the recent purported certificate in circulation, due to signatures that are not regular with any of its national officers,” Oyeniyi said.

The party further reiterated that it is not in crisis of any sort at the moment as perceived; and congratulated all its aspirants, members and supporters, for peaceful conduct during the primaries, and implored candidates that emerged to see it as a no victor, no vanquished exercise.

“Those being used by external influences to destabilise the party have been shown the exit door. ANN is destined to be the party of choice in the country under the able leadership of our national chairman, Dr. Jay Osi-Samuel, who has shown uncommon leadership in building the party to where it is today,” Oyeniyi further added.

Meanwhile, the third force political party under a new name, Alliance for People’s Trust (APT), has ratified a new pact during its national convention and presidential primary, last Saturday, in Lagos, which produced a legal icon and foremost pro-democracy activist, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) and a fresh breed energy expert and political strategist, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, as the national chairman and presidential candidate, respectively.

Hashim pledged to submit himself to the new pact to rescue Nigeria as he is well-endowed to lead fresh breed political leaders in the country to victory in 2019.

Substantive national executives of APT were also elected, with change of name of the People’s Trust (PT), as the umbrella political party of the third force to Alliance for People’s Trust (APT), the change of its logo from being a “pyramid” to “a hand of victory sign in green, white and yellow flag,” as well as the handing over of APT flag to Hashim to represent the third force in the 2019 election. The national convention was attended by apex leaders of other allied political parties and movement, including, Dr. Jay Osi-Samuels, founding chairman of ANN, Mallam Nasser Kura, national secretary of APT, Comrade Isa Tijani, deputy national chairman of ANN, Lady Funke Awolowo, who was later elected the treasurer of APT.
