Climbing the corporate ladder especially on stiletto heels to becoming leaders in many elite companies has been seen as a battle of attrition. Despite vocal support from companies, the ranks of women in upper management are stagnant. But more women are gradually shattering that inertia. Mrs. Sade Morgan, the recently appointed Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, is one of those women.
Over the years, the name of the dark-complexioned corporate player has resonated among many elite blue chip multinationals from British-American Tobacco where she held various management roles in jurisdictions that cut across the United Kingdom, North Africa, West Africa, and the Middle East in the 11 years she spent with the multinational organisation, to the Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Group where she held the role of Public Affairs and Communications Director and successfully drove a broad stakeholder management, business sustainability and CSR agenda. Now, Sade has broken the glass ceiling. In her role as new Corporate Affairs Director of NB Plc, the corporate maven has become the first woman to hold such position in over 70 years history of Nigeria’s pioneer and largest brewing firm. She is as well the first woman to head a directorate in the company and saddled with the responsibility of strengthening the elite company’s non-crisis stakeholder relations and drive a strategy-led relationship with government, regulatory organisations, host communities, the media, and non-governmental organisations to reinforce the company’s philosophy of winning with Nigeria. This, indeed, might appear a huge assignment for the woman but definitely not a huge task.
To those who know Sade very well, she is a very simple, humble and intelligent lawyer/business manager who once you engage in a discussion, you won’t want to leave in a hurry. This has been attributed to her diverse experience and global exposure which contributed in making her a great role model that she is.
A law graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Sade started her legal practice in 1993. She was at a time a Senior Associate at Aluko & Oyebode where she headed the Intellectual Property Department of one of Nigeria’s Top 10 integrated law firms. She is also a Prince II certified project manager with a certificate in executive management from the Institute of Management Development, Lausanne, Switzerland. Sade who is also a member of the Institute of Directors, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and Chairman of the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (Nigeria), has definitely started a new chapter in her enviable career.
