Tony Osauzo, Benin
The aspiration of a former Edo State Commissioner for Investment, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, to represent the people of Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has received a boost, with youth groups of his constituency backing him.
The groups said their support for Idahosa and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), is because of his philanthropic disposition to the people, especially youths of the constituency.
According to members of Edo Accord, a socio-political group, they are supporting and sure of victory for Mr. Idahosa because he paid his entire salaries as Commissioner in Oshiomhole’s cabinet to youths in various communities to enable them go to school.
They stated this when the group paid a courtesy visit to the Rep. aspirant in Benin-City.
In his comments, Vice Chairman of the group, Flyn Imariagbe said, “Idahosa has proven to be a man with a large heart. Until the emergence of the APC, there was no hope for young men.
“But APC brought out gift of young men like Idahosa. The gift of open hands.
“He wants others to profit from the available resources of the country. His contesting with an incumbent lawmaker in the opposition does not matter. What matters is the credibility and ability to perform.
“The incumbent has been tested and known to fail. There is no evidence to show that we got what we expected from a representative.
“As a Commissioner, he paid his salaries to youths in various communities to ensure they go to school. We are sure of victory for Idahosa.
“The Idahosa we know was not born with a silver spoon. He trekked the streets of Iguobazuwa and today he has succeeded.
“Democracy is not about my father is rich or my father was a Governor. If the people rally round you, you are bound to succeed. That is not a problem. What matters is the vote of the people that counts”, Imariagbe said.
In the same vein, the Okada Youth Vanguard has also thrown its support for Idahosa at Okada, headquarters of Ovia North East Local Government.
Spokesman for the group, Imade Churchill, explained that their desire for the APC candidate was because he (Idahosa) used his entire salary earned as a Commissioner to pay tuition fees for students in the locality.
He pointed out that the Okada community, hometown of Chief Igbinedion, lacked basic amenities such as water, motorable road, quality health care centre despite various positions held by Chief Igbinedion.
“We are supporting the APC because the candidate they are presenting to contest against Omosede has been good to us.
“We have not benefited anything from the Igbinedions even when Lucky was the Governor.
We want a new party to represent us in the House of Representatives from 2019”, the group said.
The APC candidate is seeking to wrest the Ovia Federal Constituency seat from Omosede of the PDP and daughter of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom.
